SUSTAINABILITY
At HCC Hotels, we firmly believe that sustainability is not a fad, but rather a necessity and a genuine commitment that will help ensure the well-being of present and future generations. We are aware that our activities have an impact on the environment around us, which is why we have taken on the responsibility of minimising this impact by promoting sustainable practices in our four hotels in the centre of Barcelona; practices that range from energy consumption to waste management.
Energy and water
In an effort to reduce energy consumption we have installed LED lighting systems in all rooms and motion sensors in communal and staff areas.
In an effort to generate clean energy and minimise our carbon footprint, we have installed a total of 80 solar panels at the HCC St Moritz, providing between 15% and 20% of the hotel’s electricity needs and saving 22,200 kg of CO2 emissions per year. 100% of the energy generated is used by the hotel.
In terms of water, we have installed flow reducing filters on taps and showers that reduce water consumption by 55% to 60%, helping to conserve this precious resource.
All our toilets are dual flush.
All our hotels are equipped with Magna 3 circulators, which increase the efficiency of hot water, heating and cooling, saving 48% of thermal energy and 96% of motor energy consumption. This circulator was the first to receive an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), which documents the environmental impact of the product.
Electric Mobility
We are committed to reducing transport emissions by promoting the use of electric vehicles in our hotels. We have installed a total of 6 electric charging points across our facilities: 2 charging points at the HCC St Moritz hotel and 4 charging points at the HCC Montblanc hotel, each with a maximum capacity of 7 kW. This infrastructure enables our guests and staff to conveniently and sustainably recharge their electric vehicles, helping to reduce the environmental impact associated with mobility.
The installation of these charging points has been supported by the MOVES III Programme, a grant aimed at accelerating the transition towards more environmentally friendly mobility.
Cleaning
We do not use toxic products and our cleaning liquid bottles are super-concentrated, meaning we save 10 bottles with the use of one, and 20 anti-limescale bottles with the use of just one.
At HCC Hotels we will continue to innovate and improve our practices to ensure a greener, more prosperous future for all.
We invite you to learn more about the Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, of our company.
Waste management
All our hotels have rigorous recycling and waste separation programmes.
We also promote the use of biodegradable and recyclable products in our facilities. For example, we have replaced our amenity kits with more sustainable ones and installed soap dispensers in bathrooms. We have replaced toothbrushes with biodegradable corn starch toothbrushes, and laundry bags, sanitary bags and toilet roll are made from paper, as are our slippers.
We have replaced plastic bottles with glass bottles.
Our picnic boxes are now cardboard.
