By | 10 October, 2021 | 0 comments

Barcelona is known for its rich and vibrant history. In every corner, you’ll see marks of history left over the centuries. Although many of the city’s historical features are no longer around, others are still very much alive, including these four palaces you can visit on your next trip to the city.

Palacio Güell

  1. Palau Moxó

A baroque-style palace belonging to the Moxó family, who gave it their name, this landmark is unique in Barcelona for the history it represents, as it was the only palace of its style and time to stay standing after the destructive bombings of the Civil War. If you’d like to visit Palau Moxó, guided tours are available where you can explore the various rooms throughout the palace, except for the state rooms, where the Moxó family still live to this day.

  1. Palau de la Virreina

Another baroque-style palace in the heart of Barcelona, standing on Las Ramblas, visitors can take in the main façade of the building that today houses the city’s cultural zone. Visits focus on two areas, firstly the palace itself, and secondly the permanent exhibitions that are showcased. The palace is also known as the Centre de la Imatge.

  1. Palau de la Música

Catalan modernism in its purest, most glorious form. Nobody should miss out on a visit to Palau de la Música. As the name might suggest, the building is dedicated to celebrating all things music, where you can enjoy just about every type of convert and event, from classical to the most modern.

  1. Palau Güell

Built by the city’s most famous architect, Antoni Gaudí, this was one of his first works completed towards the end of the 19th century. In true modernist style, it’s a palace that saw serious financial investment in its day, thanks to the enormous purchasing power of Eusebi Güell, financier of the project. Definitely a must-see on your next trip to Barcelona is Palacio Güell.

Immerse yourself in these four Barcelona palaces by adding them to your itinerary on your next tour of the city. All unique places that will help you relive the history and majesty of stately Barcelona.
