A truly unique day out in Amposta: the Museo de les Terres de l’Ebre
Amposta is nestled in a unique enclave where visitors can enjoy all the vast benefits nature has to offer. But it’s also where you can enjoy some amazing cultural excursions, like the one we’re highlighting in today’s post, a visit to the wonderful Museo de les Terres de l’Ebre.
3,000 square metres of exhibition space dedicated to life in Amposta
In 1984, Terres de l’Ebre Museum was officially opened with the ultimate goal of becoming a cultural platform for local initiatives and to promote the region.
The museum is responsible for conserving and preserving some of the most important local collections from the Ebro valley and surrounding areas, showcasing and sharing this amazing local knowledge with visitors to Amposta’s most famous museum.
Throughout the museum’s history, we’ve witnessed the high quality of exhibitions on offer, with more than 800 public activities, including temporary exhibitions, workshops, conferences, courses and presentations for everyone to enjoy. Furthermore, the museum has also carried out some 500 technical and research projects, including studies, inventories, scientific articles, museum projects and more.
Guided tours through the heart of nature, archaeology and ethnology at the Museo de les Terres de l’Ebre
The museum organisation brings together more than 35,000 artefacts that will help you relive the history of the area through three key aspects: ethnology, archaeology and nature.
As such, the museum divides its visitor space into three key areas: “Les Terres de l’Ebre: from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages”, “The Ebro river waterway” and “The Ebro Delta: memories of a medium, a space for the people”.
The museum doesn’t solely focus on exhibiting its collections, it also offers educational and tourist experiences, including guided tours, dedicated itineraries and workshops, all made available to school groups and those looking to explore the local culture when on holiday, along with offering a great way to discover and learn about the heritage of the fantastic Terres de l’Ebre region.
