Boat trips in Barcelona – discover the most popular routes!

By | 4 September, 2021 | 0 comments

Even though Barcelona is a fantastic place to visit and explore by land (and up in the air), by far one of the best ways to see the Catalan capital is from a boat trip in Barcelona. Being able to sail along the stunning coast, admiring the city’s skyline under clear blue skies with a cooling sea breeze truly is a unique way to see the real beauty of this special part of the world.

Heading down to Port Vell, you’ll find a whole range of options for renting a boat for a few hours and making a few circuits of the Mediterranean coast. Below are some of our suggested routes for guests thinking about enjoying some time on the water on their next trip to Barcelona.

Get to know the real Costa Brava with a boat trip in Barcelona

On your boat trip in Barcelona, you’ll get the chance to explore the Costa Brava and some of its most fascinating spots. Spend the day soaking up the sun on the clear blue waters, making stops as you go, discovering all the most popular towns in the region.

This first tour begins in Calella de Palafrugell, a small fishing village with plenty of hidden coves, where you’ll find beauty in both the rugged landscapes and the architecture of the streets. The second stop is Llafranc, another traditional fishing village where you can walk up to Far de St Sebastia, a lighthouse with a particular charm where the sea views are to die for.

To really get to know the area, a stop in the town of Estartit is next on the list, perfect for trying your hand at some diving, given the Medes Islands archipelago is just a few minutes off the coast. With more than 1,200 species of flora and fauna, this particular stretch of coast has been classified the best reserve in the Western Mediterranean.

The tour finishes with an excursion to the Greco-Roman ruins of Ampurias, the only place in Spain where you’ll find remains of both Greek and Roman civilisations alongside one another. One of the best things you can see here is the ancient port that was first established by the Greeks in the 1st century BC.

A classic excursion: the Barcelona skyline at sunset

Our other itinerary suggestion is a classic option for all you romantics visiting the Catalan capital between May and October because, even though boat trips in Barcelona are a great idea whatever the time of year, in the summer months, the landscapes become just that little bit more magical and exuberant, especially if you’re heading out on the water on a stunning sail boat to soak up all the beauty of the city from a unique perspective.

Over the course of a two-hour trip, you’ll sail parallel to all the main attractions in the city, including Montjuïc, the Sagrada Familia, Barceloneta beach, Torre Agbar and Mount Tibidabo. It’s the perfect opportunity to snap the most beautiful holiday photos with the Barcelona skyline as your background.
