By | 28 February, 2021 | 0 comments

Did you know Barcelona’s airport is just 13 kilometres from the heart of the city centre? That’s why travelling to the Catalan capital by air couldn’t be simpler. What’s more, El Prat – the airport serving Barcelona – and the city are incredibly well-connected thanks to a great public transport network, although, of course, there are plenty of private transfer options available too. If you want to find out how to get from the airport to Barcelona city centre, in today’s post, we’re going to tell you all the very best transfer options.

cómo llegar del aeropuerto al centro de Barcelona

When booking your flights, it’s important to know in advance how to get from the airport itself to the city, or even better, directly to your accommodation. Although the most comfortable way to travel is to book a direct transfer, it’s worth noting that when it comes to Barcelona airport, it’s not at all necessary. Getting to the city centre couldn’t be more straight-forward, or cheaper. Below we’ll tell you some of the best forms of transport if you’re arriving in Barcelona by air.

Taking the train from Barcelona airport to the city centre

The quickest, most comfortable and cheapest way to get from the airport to the centre of Barcelona is by train. The El Prat station is located in Terminal 2, and you can get there via the free shuttle bus if your plane is landing at Terminal 1.

Depending on the part of the city you’re looking to reach, be aware that the train makes several stops along the way, and the most popular are Sants and Paseo de Gracia. The journey time from Barcelona airport to the city centre by train is approximately 20 minutes and trains leave every half an hour costing €4.60 per person.

Aerobus: the direct bus route to Barcelona from the airport

The Aerobus is another transport option that links the airport with the Catalan capital. The bus has two lines, each serving one of the airport’s terminals. In the city, the bus arrives and departs from Plaza Cataluña, so it’s a great option if your hotel is in this part of the city, although there are other stops along the way.

To get from Barcelona airport to the city centre, the bus takes around 35 minutes and the price for a single journey is €5.90.

Barcelona airport – city centre by metro

Line 9 of Barcelona’s comprehensive metro system connects the city with the airport, specifically the University Zone with Terminals 1 and 2. Furthermore, on the journey, you can hop on or off at several stations that connect Line 9 with other more central areas, such as Fira and Collblanc.

Journeys from the University Zone to Barcelona airport take approximately 35 minutes and leave every 4 to 7 minutes, so taking the metro to El Prat Airport is usually a comfortable option in terms of timings. The price of a single trip is €5.15.

Private transfers

If all you want to do after a long journey to Barcelona by air is to get to your accommodation and slip off your shoes, especially if you have a lot of luggage with you, the best option is generally to book a private transfer. A great idea is to simply jump into one of the taxis you’ll see as soon as you leave the terminal building. This kind of private transfer has the added advantage that they’re available throughout the night, whenever you need to travel.

Normally, taxi journeys from the airport to Barcelona city centre take around 25 minutes and cost approximately €30.

There are also several dedicated transfer companies operating at Barcelona airport, who you can book in advance and will organise everything for you. These companies offer cars, limousines, as well as mini-buses for both private and shared journeys. By far the most comfortable and fastest options for getting from the airport to your hotel’s reception desk!

As you can see, when it comes to getting from the airport to Barcelona city centre, there are countless options available to you. Compare prices and times and choose the option that’s right for you.
