Moritz: are you a fan of Barcelona’s most famous beer?
For over 160 years now, there’s been one particular beer proudly sporting Barcelona’s seal of approval. In 1856, a craft beer was brewed for the very first time, with character and a unique flavour that would recall the spirit of cosmopolitan Barcelona wherever you happened to find it. Let’s get to know that internationally famous Barcelona export, Moritz!
The Moritz brewery in Barcelona: a beer lover’s paradise
In 2011, Moritz decided to throw open the doors of its brewery to the public, turning this particular part of Sant Antoni, which was redesigned by Jean Nouvel, into a popular destination for beer lovers, where you can enjoy the truly special atmosphere and, of course, a beer or two.
The brewery’s main tanks are located under the central floor space, where the bar-restaurant and gift shop can currently be found. Chef Jordi Vilá takes charge of preparing some amazing dishes on the menu, which are well worth a try and go well with a cold glass of Moritz, naturally!
The brewery could well be described as a genuine modern-day urban theme park, open for visitors to explore and enjoy. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, guided tours are available, where you can get to know each and every corner of the Moritz Barcelona Brewery, as well as tasting 5 of their best beers.
Moritz Beer Lab: a beer research and development lab in Barcelona
Moritz’s very own brewmasters spend hours and hours overseeing a careful brewing process. Hops, barley, water and yeast… sure, those may be the core ingredients of any beer, but only the perfect mixture and timing leads to the best results.
As the traditional recipe was perfected many years ago, the site now has its very own Moritz Beer Lab, where scientists and brewers develop brand-new recipes to satisfy every modern taste and trend. In the mood to try some? Moritz Red IPA, Moritz Blat, Moritz Cítrics, Moritz Scottish, Moritz Negra, Moritz Fum Fum Fum, Moritz ‘La Bèstia’ and Moritz Sour, a fantastic variety of limited edition beers that you can enjoy for 3 or 4 months at the brewery or directly from the Moritz Store.
If you’re looking to try something unusual, different and exciting, this is the perfect way to enjoy your trip to Barcelona. A day out in the city that combines all the key ingredients needed to shake up your routine. Come down and enjoy!
