(English) Plaza Real, the Perfect Place for Enjoying Barcelona by Night

By | 18 October, 2018 | 0 comments

Barcelona is certainly not short of places to enjoy the local nightlife. But few places are quite as beautiful and appealing as Plaza Real. The palm trees, the Tres Gracias fountain and Gaudí’s very own lampposts all perfectly combine with the elegance and glamour of the surrounding stately buildings where bars, restaurants and some of Barcelona’s most famous nightspots can be found.

Plaza Real Barcelona

Found in the Gothic Quarter, you can easily get to Plaza Real from Las Ramblas via Calle de Colón. Plaza Real was built by famous Catalan architect Francesc Daniel Molina, who designed the square as an elegant and tasteful setting that could bolster the monarchy of the time and where all the best restaurants in the city could be housed.

A century and a half later, Plaza Real has become the central meeting place in all of Barcelona. It serves as an open space where visitors can enjoy spending time, whether early in the morning, mid-afternoon or late into the night. A place where the 60s-style terraces perfectly intertwine with the most modern and avant-garde features, breathing life into the most fun, romantic, festive and, occasionally, wild sides of the city.

A place where Barcelona’s nightlife finds its home, with bars and clubs offering live music and others providing alternative, more exciting entertainment that always promise fun and enjoyment for everyone.  Here, we’ll tell you about some of the very best places to try:

Sidecar

A hotspot for live music since the 1980s, this club is famous for the quality of its concerts, including styles as varied as rock and roll, pop, punk, indie and electronic music. Open as a nightclub from Monday to Saturday from 00:30 to 05:00 and on Fridays and Saturdays until 06:00. Sidecar also opens as a bar from Monday to Sunday from 19:00 to 02:30 and on Fridays and Saturdays until 03:00.

Jamboree

One of the real veterans on the city’s nightlife scene and open since the 1970s, Jamboree offers live jazz concerts every night from 20:00 to 22:00. From midnight onwards, it transforms into a nightclub. On Thursdays, the venue offers different music styles and for the rest of the week you can enjoy electronic music until 05:00.

Karma

One of the best venues for lovers of alternative sounds, such as rock, pop-rock, indie and more independent music, Karma is open from Tuesday to Thursday and on Sundays from midnight to 05:00, as well as Fridays and Saturdays from midnight to 06:00.

Tarantos

The meeting place for Barcelona’s greatest flamencodancers. Tarantos offers live performances that showcase young flamenco stars from Monday to Sunday between 20:00 and 23:00. From 23:00, it transforms into a nightclub. Housing a café, bar, restaurant, club and cocktail bar, the venue still has all the elegant furnishings of the 19th century, along with chairs from the 80s adapting to newer times, with artwork from modern, alternating and exciting artists designed to attract the most bold and daring music lovers.
