The Delta del Ebro is one of the most important geographic features of the Spanish peninsula. The beauty of the landscape just adds to its immense environmental value, thanks to the richness and variety of the local flora and fauna. The Delta del Ebro International Ornithology Festival, the Delta Birding Festival, offers a wide and varied programme of activities and events at MónNatura where you can enjoy getting close to all the local birds and nature, a must-see event in the world of ornithology.

From 23 to 25 September, Amposta will become the world centre of ornithology. MónNatura, the Delta del Ebro’s very own research centre, will play host to a range of conferences, courses, workshops, competitions, guided tours and even a fair on ornithological products and services, making it a must for all you bird lovers. Some of the highlights of this year’s programme include:

Delta del Ebro International Ornithology Festival: Friday

There will be a screening on Friday evening of The Big Year, a comedy film about an obsession with bird watching.

Saturday and Sunday

A River of Birds’, enjoy a boat trip through the waters of the Ebro river from the mouth to the island of Gracia. Furthermore, the ‘Canon Delta Photo Tour’ offers a photographic journey of discovery through the Nature Park, with the invaluable help of a tour guide. What’s more, photographer Antonio Liébana will explain some of the most helpful techniques for landscape photography.

Conferences

The festival is proud to count on the support of some of the most famous names in ornithology, such as Lars Svensson, expert in identifying birds, Per Alström, specialist in taxonomy and evolution, Vicent Bretagnolle, sea bird expert, and Yossi Leshem, researcher into ways of avoiding collisions between birds and aircraft.

Visits to the Alfacada

Access to the Alfacada Nature Reserve is limited in order to preserve conservation in the area, but the organisers have put together a special tour where you can visit the lagoon where flora and fauna thrive. A unique opportunity to discover this jewel of nature.

Activities for children, digiscoping, identifying birdsong, building nesting boxes and a whole lot more will complete the programme at the Delta del Ebro International Ornithology Festival.
