When you’ve exhausted all there is to enjoy in the great city of Barcelona and want to branch out a little further afield, here are 6 places to visit in Cataluña that we think you’ll love. This way, you’ll get to see more of what this fantastic region has to offer!

lugares para visitar en Cataluña

1. Guimerà, one of the most beautiful villages near Barcelona

Guimerà is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in Cataluña. Nestled in the Corb Valley in the province of Lérida, this unique spot can be found perched on the side of the mountain.

Guimerà takes you back to another era. Visitors get to travel back in time to medieval Spain thanks to the cobbled streets, little squares and stone houses that lie around every corner of this magnificent town. Start your visit with a walk along the banks of the river, taking in the views and don’t forget to climb the castle tower. A spectacular day out!

2. Vall de Boí, Parc Nacional d’Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici

Do you like nothing more than escaping into unspoiled nature? Do you want to breathe in some truly fresh air? Vall de Boi is the place for you. Here you’ll find waterfalls, rivers, lakes and hiking trails through the glorious mountain landscapes of Parc Nacional d’Aigüestortes. Visitors can choose from a wide variety of routes to explore, depending on how much time you want to spend in the area. From quick hikes to those lasting several hours, they’ll all give you a taste of the sheer natural beauty of this unspoiled location.

What’s more, in Vall de Boi you’ll also find Romanesque art, as the area is home to several churches that have been designated World Heritage Sites, including Sant Climent de Taüll, Santa Eulàlia d’Erill la Vall, and Sant Joan de Boí.

3. Siurana, welcome to wine country

A fairytale location surrounded by vineyards and lakes, Siurana can be found in Tarragona, southeast of Priorat, and is one of the best places to visit in Cataluña. What is there to see and do here? Alongside soaking up the dreamlike landscapes, we recommend you take in the panoramic views of Sierra de Montsant, visit the Church of Santa Maria, and don’t forget to explore the archaeological remains of Castillo del Walí Almira Alemoni.

If you’re into staying active and working up a sweat, there are also plenty of adrenaline-fuelled pursuits you can enjoy in Siurana, from rock climbing and canoeing to kayaking and canyoning. Not a place to overlook!

4. Gorg del Molí dels Murris

One of the best kept secrets in Girona is the Moli dels Murris gorge. The whole area is a flooded volcanic landscape, famous for its crystal clear natural swimming holes, waterfalls and spectacular forests that draw visitors from all over the world. The bathing pools here have featured in countless films and advertisements. A genuinely unique location! Take the Carrilet hiking route or the path that follows the Cogolls river to get here. A spectacular day out

5. Places to visit in Cataluña: Rupit i Pruït

Rupit i Pruït is a Spanish municipality made up of two urban centres: Rupit and Pruit, which were independent until 1977. Widely recognised as two of the most beautiful villages in the Barcelona region, they’re quietly nestled between the Collsacabras and Guilleries mountains. Rupit is famous for its impressive waterfall, the Salt de Sallent, as well as its breathtaking suspension bridge. It’s a place framed by pure nature where visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll, take on one of the many hiking trails, or simply sit back and admire the landscapes. Don’t miss the viewpoint where you can enjoy panoramic views over Rupit i Pruït.

6. Lago de Banyoles

Lago de Banyoles is the biggest lake in Cataluña. It was formed over 250,000 years ago, creating a unique natural environment in the process. Simply finding a shady spot to take in the area’s natural beauty is more than enough reason to visit Lago de Banyoles, but there’s also the option to enjoy a sightseeing boat trip, or even try your hand at kayaking!
