(English) Born, a walk around the picturesque side to Barcelona

By | 11 April, 2016 | 0 comments

One of the best things about Barcelona is that it is made up of many ‘mini-Barcelonas’ which contribute to the unique personality of the city and allow visitors to explore a wide variety of hidden corners. The Born district, for example, offers a very interesting vision of the city as visitors can get lost in the narrow streets and the squares, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the historic monuments, original shops and culinary delights of the area.

The best way to make the most of this neighbourhood is by walking through the narrow streets and discovering everything that appears before your very eyes. The proximity of Born to the Gothic Quarter means that visitors can extend their visit just by crossing the Vía Laetana and enter a labyrinth full of charm and sights to see, such as the Palacio de la Música Catalana, a splendid modern work by Doménech i Montaner. Next to the Palacio you can find the hotel hcc montblanc, the ideal starting point for a visit around Born.

The colourful Santa Caterina Market is a wonderful alternative to the Boquería Market, the most famous market in Barcelona. Its innovative style will impress any visitor and here you can enjoy fresh products and a well-known restaurant. A must-visit is also the market of Born, a modernist iron structure which is now a thriving shopping centre.

For a historical visit, the Sant Pere church and square cannot be missed, a fascinating combination of Roman and Gothic architecture which was once a monastery for Benedict monks.

Born also has many museums, including the famous Chocolate Museum and the Picasso Museum which holds over 4,000 works primarily from his youth.

After wandering around the sights, if you want to relax and recharge your batteries, you don’t even need to leave the neighbourhood! The restaurants and tapas bars in Born cater for all tastes and the best way to enjoy the culinary delights is on one of the many rooftop terraces scattered around the narrow streets, weather permitting, of course!

Born is not only a district, it is a mini city which shows the more relaxed side to Barcelona. Like a good wine, Born only improves with age and is guaranteed to impress everyone that passes through.
