Can water really make art? Well, with the right combination of light and water, beautiful designs and locations – like you’ll find in the best fountains of Barcelona – you’re sure to see all the beauty and magic of just how amazing water can be. The perfect example would have to be the light show at Fonts Bessones at Plaza Catalunya, which we’ve talked about in previous posts. Enjoy our tour of some of the other most beautiful fountains in Barcelona.

Font de Canaletes: one of the most famous fountains in Barcelona

Located on Rambla de Canaletes, this is one of the more famous fountains you’ve probably seen in all the guidebooks. Incidentally, this is usually where Barça fans choose to celebrate taking home another title.

The fountain is incredibly unusual, given it’s actually a lamppost, around the base of which sit four spouts that make up the fountain.

Font de Santa Anna, Carrer de la Cucurulla

One of the oldest fountains in the entire city, covering more than 600 years of vibrant history. This fountain has been witness to centuries of rich and varied history in Barcelona.

In 1918, the only structural modifications ever made to this fountain took place. Josep Aragay was the designer of the famous vases that now sit on top of the fountain, as well as the decorative ceramics.

Font de la Portaferrissa, Carrer de la Portaferrissa

A fountain that harks back to the medieval period of Barcelona. Its name, Portaferrissa, refers to one of the eight doors found on the medieval wall that once protected ancient Barcelona.

In 1959, the ceramic mural you see today was commissioned. This mural reflects daily life that took place around this bustling gate on the wall.

Font d’Hèrcules, Carrer de Còrsega

Located at a crossroads between Passeig de Sant Joan and Carrer de Còrsega, here you’ll find a fountain officially declared a cultural asset of valuable local interest.

In the early 19th century, Josep Moret and Salvador Gurri came together to try to create the most original fountain of the time – and they certainly succeeded, holding claim to that title to this very day, we’re sure you’ll agree.
