(English) Fira de Barcelona Welcomes the Mobile World Congress 2018
Barcelona has begun the countdown to Mobile World Congress 2018, when it willonce again become the flagship city for the technology industry. This global event will take place between 26 February and 1 March at Fira de Barcelona. All the latest indications point to this year beating record attendance numbers thanks to the level of interest that the event has stirred, considered the biggest mobile technology event in the world.
But no less important is the economic impact on the city and the international media attention it is preparing to receive. Under the slogan ‘mobile is everything’, all the key players in the mobile technology sectorare due to gather at MWC18 on Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Vía site. The event will bring together all the industry’s leading manufacturers, including Acer, Fujitsu, Google, Huawei, Nokia, Visa, Telefónica, Sony, Samsung, Alcatel‑Lucent, Cisco, Intel, Lenovo, LG, MasterCard, Microsoft and Vodafone, with a full list of some 2,100 exhibitors. A total of 4,000 national and international journalists will cover this unmissable event for industry players in the world of mobile services, phone manufacturers and content distributors. At MWC18, visitors will be able to explore all the key innovations and latest trends coming from the sector, as well as unveilings of the new Samsung Galaxy.
Another major attraction is the conference programme, which features leading figures from the industry, such Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, President and CEO of Ericson, Hans Vestberg, the founder and CEO of BuzzFeed, Jonah Peretti, President and CEO of PayPal, Dan Schulman, General Electric Digital’s Managing Director, William Ruh, and the Executive Director of Ford, Mark Fields. Other notable attendees include F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, who will take part in a debate on the use of mobile technology in the automotive sector.

There will also be specially dedicated spaces for 5G, wearable technology and the Internet of Things. Last year, Mobile World Congress 2017 exceeded all expectations to beat attendance records with 100.000 visitors from more than 200 countries, 9.4% up on 2017. Current forecasts predict new record participation levels and an even greater economic impact on the city, thought to be in the region of more than €470 million.And that’s not to mention the creation of 13,000 jobs.
