How to celebrate Halloween in Barcelona?

By | 29 September, 2019 | 0 comments

Costumes, pumpkins, spider webs and the most gruesome decorations will soon be seen all over the city as Barcelona comes to life in spectacular fashion on the darkest night of the year. Barcelona is the perfect place to celebrate Halloween for a whole host of different reasons, but you can always be sure to enjoy the night of 31 October like never before. What’s more, there’s one thing you’ll find here that you probably won’t find anywhere else, the delicacies of the La Castañada festival, which coincides with Halloween night. Two traditions that – together or separately – are perfect for enjoying Halloween in Barcelona.

Halloween en Barcelona

Not many people are aware that one of America’s most popular traditions, Halloween, can be traced back to the British Celts, who believed the dead left their graves for one night only on 31 October, so they would light bonfires to scare them away. Nowadays, the holiday has spread throughout the world, becoming increasingly popular, and nowhere more so than in Barcelona. The city will be adorned in black and orange on Halloween night, with a whole host of amazing activities on offer, including:

Casta-Halloween

Granja Adventure Park is the perfect place for a family-friendly Halloween, before, during and after the night of the dead itself. From 29 to 31 October, as well as 1, 5 and 6 November, they’re hosting special workshops where the Maduixa Witch will be painting children’s faces, the Castanyera Eulàlia will be telling some incredible tales and there’ll even be some terrific orange workshops. Family fun guaranteed.

Halloween party at Poble Espanyol

To kick off the ghoulish festivities in style, Poble Espanyol will host one of the city’s biggest Halloween parties on Sunday 30 October. Nothing will be left to chance, from pumpkin-making to costume contests and the classic trick or treating, you’ll also be able to try your luck in the tunnel of terror, enjoy the magic shows, an amazing zombie dance, all part of an experience as fun as it is scary.

Halloween in Barcelona: Horror movies

Phenomena Cinema will be hosting a Halloween night movie marathon with 3 terrifying ingredients: a devilish doll, a cemetery that comes to lifeand another particularly shocking tale. A night suitable for only the most hardcore horror movie fans.

Barcelona’s clubs, pubs and bars will be decorated from top to bottom for the occasion, along with staff costumes and festive drinks to bring the night of the undead to life. Some of your best options include Razzlloween at Sala Razmatazz, the Halloween Party at The Wild Rover, as well as The Celebrity Halloween at Shôko Barcelona.
