The widest range of colours, flavours and aromas are set to fill Plaza de la Catedral from 18 to 20 October in Barcelona, creating an unmissable event for all lovers of quality produce and great food and drink, welcome to Mercat de Mercats 2019.

mercat de mercats

Over the course of 3 days, Barcelona’s markets will showcase the widest range of locally produced food and drink as part of an enormous fair organised by Instituto Municipal de Mercados de Barcelona. A huge range of the city’s favourite market stalls will be represented – including Mercado de la Boquería, Mercado de Santa Caterina, Mercado de la Libertad, Mercado del Ninot, Mercado de Galvany, Mercado de Felip II, Mercado de la Estrella, Mercado de la Mercè and Mercado de Sant Gervasi – showing off all the charm that only traditional markets can. Quality, great customer service, tailored advice and expert product knowledge. What’s more, stall holders themselves will show off their expertise and great products in the Market Artists zone, where they’ll demonstrate their extensive knowledge of the local produce they sell.

But this famous food and drink event goes much further than simply offering samples of the best local produce, all ‘made in Cataluña’, in the other parts of the festival that will awaken all five of your senses.

Mercat de Mercats: Cooking workshops

Some of Catalonia’s best chefs will show off their skills live and in person as they cook succulent dishes fresh on the stove, from arroz meloso de congrio to galeras, all prepared by Chef Carles Gaig from Barcelona’s Gaig Restaurant; learn how to cook salicornia from the Delta del Ebro thanks to Rosa Rochet’s expert knowledge from La Ràpita Kitchen Collective; or simply start a beautiful culinary journey at Momentos con Raül Balam, among plenty of other amazing events.

Taste zone

No food and drink festival would be complete without an amazing wine zone. Mercat de Mercats 2019 will have a fully-stocked cellar, serving up the best of Catalan wines and cavas that can all be tried in advance at various tasting stations. You can also learn about the history of all the great labels and bottles and enjoy some wonderful technical talks.

Mercat de Mercats 2019 is the best opportunity to learn, discover, taste and try all the best food and drink Barcelona has to offer.
