Cycling is a sport that attracts ardent supporters. But on 7th july, Barcelona will play host to an event that attracts professionals and amateurs alike in huge numbers, the Oakley Gran Fondo Barcelona, the only cycling race to both depart and arrive in the city.

Barcelona, the spectacular scenery of the Garraf and a landscape that combines beaches and mountains as one is set to stage the Oakley Gran Fondo Barcelona this coming 7th july, a 140-kilometre cycling race to qualify for the Gran Fondo World Tour. It’s a unique opportunity for lovers of cycling to test their legs – and their capacity for giving it all they’ve got – as well as the perfect excuse to get to know Barcelona and its surrounding region in a brand-new way. With a 1,600-metre altitude difference along the course, the Oakley Gran Fondo Barcelona will be a challenge for every cyclist, not forgetting the 24km/h race pace you’ll need to keep up with. Cyclists who are overtaken by the follow-up car will automatically be disqualified from the race.

The race will start beneath the city’s famous Olympic Rings. Specifically, at the Picornell swimming pool on Avenida de l´Estadi, where the starting gun will be fired at 08.00 precisely, kicking off a race that will move to the rhythm of the track and the beauty of the route. The first refreshment stop will take place in Sitges, the second in Torrelletes, the third in Avinyó Nou and the final one in Begues. The finish line will be in the free zone and arrivals are scheduled for 16.00. The Pasty Party and awards ceremony will then take place in Picornell.

Winners of the final leg of the race in both male and female categories will win two places for the Marcialonga Cycling Craft in Italy, as well as travel and all expenses paid for the event.
