Second European Construction Summit in Barcelona
Barcelona is set to be the global centre of the architecture and construction industries as the European BIM Summit comes to town. The city has long been a worldwide icon for its avant-garde architecture and capacity for innovation. The event will take place at the World Trade Centre Barcelona (WTCB) and will play host to all the latest news and innovations from the BIM collaborative work model within the architecture and construction sectors.
What is BIM?
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a new technology designed to revolutionise the concept of modern architecture and remodelling existing structures. With it, the building process now involves analysing a whole host of variables, such as property development, maintenance, project design, direction and management of the building process. BIM is revolutionising the way the industry approaches building projects.
European BIM Summit
The event – organised by Barcelona’s College of Quantity Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers, BIM Academy and the BuildingSMART Spanish Chapter – is an unmissable event in the construction sector calendar, with more than 50 speakers of great standing in the industry, such as Ignacio Calvo, Technology and Innovation Director at Acciona Infraestructuras, Jesús Silva, CEO of INECO, Bilal Succar, BIM Strategic Consultant, Sergio Muñoz, CEO of Smart Spanish Chapter and Francisco Diéguez, Director General of ITeC, alongside a full programme of workshops, marketplaces and networking.
This is the second edition of the summit, which is sponsored by Roca, and will this year see a delegation from the United Kingdom attend as a guest country owing to the UK’s reputation as being a BIM pioneer up until 2011, thanks to the commitment of the British authorities to building information modelling.
The event confirms Barcelona’s position as a point of reference, not only in the construction industry, but also in terms of business tourism, by hosting a range of major events, including Smartup City Expo, Mobile World Congress and Beyond Building Barcelona.
At HCC Hotels, we offer visitors to the city five hotels located in the heart of Barcelona. HCC Montblanc and HCC Lugano can be found just a 9 minute drive from WTCB, HCC Taber and HCC St Moritz just 13 minutes, and HCC Regente just 17 minutes by car from the World Trade Centre Barcelona.
