Summer terraces
One of the most popular ways to spend time during the summer season is to enjoy the Barcelona night air with a refreshing drink in hand on one of the city’s many terraces. Plaza Real is home to some of the most elegant and glamorous options, thanks to the stately buildings that surround the square, the palm trees, the fountain of Las Tres Gracias and the unique touch of lampposts designed by Gaudí himself.
Hotel terraces also offer the privacy and peace-and-quiet you just can’t get anywhere else during the peak summer season. The outdoor terraces at St. Gallen Restaurant, El Racó de Montblanc and the terrace at the HCC Regente REG76 are some of the best and most refreshing options for making the most of those long summer nights in the city.
Beaches in Barcelona
While Barceloneta beach may be the best known in town, actually, Barcelona has nine stunning beaches where you can enjoy a spot of sunbathing and cooling-off in the pleasantly warm Mediterranean waters. Watersports are also an excellent way of filling your day with entertainment and adrenaline on those hot summer afternoons.
Neighbourhood parties
Despite being one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, Barcelona still retains all the charm and personality unique to each of its distinctive neighbourhoods and districts. Locals put their traditions and customs firmly on show as part of their annual neighbourhood festivals during the summer months. The list is extensive, but some of the most popular include those held in Gràcia, Poble Sec and the Fiesta Mayor de Sants.
Indulge your senses in a horchata
If there’s a summer drink in Barcelona, it’s the horchata, without doubt. A typical Valencian drink, sipping on a traditional horchata is sure to be a refreshing and nutritious experience for any weary traveller. In Barcelona, you can savour the unique flavours of the artisan drink at El Tío Che, Orxatería La Valenciana and Sirvent, among many other fine drinking establishments.
