(English) Barcelona – a veg-friendly city

By | 3 January, 2017 | 0 comments

In March 2016, Barcelona was declared to be the top city in the world as vegan and vegetarian friendly. As well as promoting the health benefits of having a diet full of vegetables and less animal products, Barcelona has created a guide for vegetarians in Barcelona called BCNvegPoint, which is aimed at local vegan and vegetarian companies, and has created the idea of meat-free Mondays. Many restaurants in Barcelona have been serving vegetarian dishes for a long time using organic products in the hope of encouraging healthy cooking.

The local council in Barcelona has declared the city as being veg-friendly, hoping to highlight the social benefits and the advantages of a meat-free diet for the environment and health. Thanks to the amount of vegetarian or vegan restaurants in Barcelona, a meat-free diet doesn’t mean that you can’t eat out. Below is a list of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Barcelona:

Biocenter

Located in the street Pintor Fortuny nº25 close to Las Ramblas, this restaurant was one of the pioneers in vegetarian cooking in Barcelona. Founded in 1980, Biocenter is renowned for its home-cooked food, its cosy atmosphere and its high quality dishes. Ideal for groups.

Amaltea

Situated in the street Diputació nº164, this restaurant has dishes full of natural flavours that will make your mouth water when you see them. A salad buffet, a lunch menu and a selection of dishes are just a few things on the menu. A take-away option is also available.

Aguaribay

Ideal for vegans and people who eat a gluten-free diet, this restaurant presents traditional dishes in an imaginative and nutritious way. There is a lunchtime menu available and Aguaribay can be found in the street Ramón Turró nº181.

Sésamo

Situated in the Raval neighbourhood in the street Sant Antoni Abad nº52, Sésamo serves vegetarian dishes made with organic and seasonal products from the famous Boquería Market. International dishes and tapas are on offer and on Thursday nights there is a fruit cocktail tasting night.

Arco Iris

Arco Iris is situated in street Roger de Flor nº216 and musaka and mushroom rice with parmesan cheese are its specialities and can be enjoyed in a warm and cosy atmosphere.

These are just some of the vegetarian and vegan restaurants that can be found in the veg-friendly city of Barcelona. Choose your favourite! Bon appétit!
