(English) 5 activities to do with kids in Barcelona
Travelling with your children can be such a rewarding experience but it’s not always easy to find activities that are suitable for the smallest members of the family, especially fun, dynamic activities that capture kids’ attention and entertain even the most active children. Barcelona is an ideal city for families to visit as it adapts to children’s needs as it has many activities for children, as well as offering sightseeing visits for all ages.
Here are 5 activities for all the family:
Barcelona zoo
Situated next to the Parque de la Ciutadella, Barcelona’s zoo is the ideal place for a family day out to see a wide variety of species. The zoo is famous for its large collection of animals (kangaroos, elephants, lynx cats, vultures, lions, dolphins etc.) as well as being well-known for having housed the only albino gorilla that has ever existed, called ‘Copito de Nieve’, or ‘snowball’ in English. Unfortunately, Copito de Nieve passed away thirteen years ago but he still holds a special place in all the hearts of the Barcelona residents and there is a corner dedicated to him in the part of the zoo where the gorillas live. The zoo, therefore, is a place where visitors can find out about the story of this special animal.
Parque Güell
Walking through one of the most famous works of Antonio Gaudi is a great game for kids as they get lost in the alleys and see all the impressive shapes and vibrant colours which set off their imaginations as they see how architecture is fused with nature. One of the best sculptures to visit with children is undoubtedly the staircase which is shaped like a dragon.
City Parks
Barcelona has many green areas in the middle of the city that allows visitors to have a fun family day out surrounded by fresh air and nature. Some of the best parks to visit with children are the ‘Laberinto de Horta’ and the ‘Parque de la Ciutedella’, the former has a maze lined with trees and is situated at the foot of the Collserola National Park, and the latter is an outdoors museum which combines leisure, nature and culture.
Museums for Children
Visiting a museum may not seem like the best activity to do with children but Barcelona has many museums with kids in mind. Not many children can resist the temptation of chocolate, therefore the Chocolate Museum in Barcelona is ideal for all the family. Situated in the old Sant Agustí convent, the Chocolate Museum tells the story of how chocolate arrived from South America many years ago and shows visitors different forms and flavours of chocolate which are not very well-known.
Another option for a fun family day out is CosmoCaixa which is full of activities for children, including creative electronics, a 3D planetarium as well as interesting stories related to flying.
For kids who have the spirit of adventure, the Mamut Museum situated in the Born area of the city is the perfect place to discover the history of the mammoth and find out about the prehistoric period. Here visitors can enjoy an activity that is fun as well as cultural.
Tibidabo
Tibidabo is the perfect place to enjoy a fun family day out. Its amazing location means that visitors can make the most of the panoramic views of the city and children can really understand the geography of Barcelona. Here, in Tibidabo families can see a wide variety of vegetation whilst walking through nature or go and have fun in one of the best amusement parks in Spain.
