Barcelona doesn’t lose one iota of its charm in the winter months. In fact, it offers a whole host of new and appealing options for enjoying an unforgettable holiday to really make the early days of your new year so much more bearable.

Discover things to see and do in Barcelona in January

Why not try combining some of the more traditional tourist attractions that Barcelona is famous for this January with some exciting things to do as a couple, family or with friends. The pleasant temperatures are perfect for a sightseeing stroll. It’s the season of the sales, so make sure you stock up.

The food markets are bursting with fresh seasonal produce for you to try. And the traditional celebrations are perfect for getting in the mood and really capturing the soul of the city.

Walks and urban hikes through magical streets

With average temperatures of around 13 degrees and minimums of 7, January is the perfect month for taking a stroll through Barcelona without having to endure the hardship of either the extreme cold or the intense heat you’ll get in summer. What’s more, the city’s streets are so much quieter.

Strolling along La Rambla, through the Gothic Quarter, experiencing La Boquería Market, Gaudí’s architectural legacy, as well as Port Vell, all become true pleasures. Fans of walking and being in the great outdoors can also try their hand at some urban hiking to see Barcelona’s ‘wilder’ side.

Nature is always just a few steps away from the city centre, where you’ll also find some outstanding views. Guinardó and Collserola Mountains offer just two of the best views in Barcelona for truly switching off and unwinding.

Go shopping and really make the most of the sales

January is a month that does bring some good news… not least because it marks the start of the winter sales period, where few places are quite as appealing as Barcelona when it comes to shopping.

Diagonal and Passeig de Gràcia, home to all the main fashion and accessory stores, Portal de l’Àngel, the Gothic Quarter and El Raval, where more alternative and handcrafted pieces can be found, are the main shopping destinations in Barcelona, where there really is something for everyone. A real shopper’s paradise for everyone who loves a bargain, just remember to follow our top tips for hitting the sales.
