At the height of summer in Barcelona, August includes an extra-special four-day weekend! Barcelona is one of the best and most popular destinations for enjoying the long August bank holiday weekend, with plenty on offer throughout the city wherever you turn.

And there’s still time to book for one of the most desirable summer dates – the 15th August long bank holiday weekend in Spain. For four days, the country practically shuts down as most people enjoy a short break, making good use of this well-timed national holiday.  And choosing a destination for the great summer escape is not to be done in a hurry! At HCC Hotels, we thought we should share some of the best leisure options to enjoy in Barcelona during the August bank holiday weekend:

August bank holiday weekend: Sunshine and beaches

Barcelona has more than 4 kilometres of golden beaches on offer… The city’s nine beaches are excellent for soaking up the sun and enjoying life on the sand without having to travel far at all. In less than half an hour from the city centre, you’ll find some of the best beaches and coves in Barcelona.

For those of you who prefer fresh water, along with the tranquillity and privacy of a private pool, why not stay at either the HCC Regente or the HCC Montblanc, where you’ll find all the best facilities for enjoying a refreshing dip in the centre of Barcelona.

Water sports

The calm waters of the Mediterranean Sea provide a multitude of great options for fun and plenty of adrenaline with a range of great water sports on offer. Boat trips, paddle boarding, diving, flyboarding and even jet skis are just some of the great water sports you can try in Barcelona.

Food, drink and top-quality produce

In Barcelona, you’ll find some of the very best restaurants in the whole of Spain, some of which have been bestowed with the highest accolades in the world of cooking. Trying some of the world’s most innovative dishes at one of the city’s Michelin Star restaurants is a truly unforgettable dining experience. But those of you who prefer something a little more affordable – but just as tasty – can always enjoy dining in our wonderful restaurant at the Hotel Montblanc: Racó del Montblanc.

Another of the most appetising options the city has to offer in summer, where fresh and quality products go hand-in-hand, is the Mercado de la Boquería, the biggest food market in all of Barcelona.

A tapas tour of Barcelona

There are lots of great tapas bars dotted throughout the city offering delicious miniature dishes in traditional Spanish style. Barcelona has a number of distinct neighbourhoods where you can enjoy tapas in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Summer terraces

Cooling off with a nice glass of wine or a refreshing cocktail while enjoying all the different parts of the city is the perfect way to spend the long August bank holiday weekend. Summer terraces for all tastes and budgets can be found throughout the city.

These are just a few ideas of things to do in Barcelona in August. Book your room at one of our hotels located in the heart of Barcelona so you can truly make the most of the upcoming August bank holiday weekend as you rest and recharge those batteries.
