Are you a fan of cycling? Ever wanted to explore a new city on two wheels? It’s the perfect way to discover a new destination from an altogether different perspective, as you can reach more places in far less time and have a lot of fun while ticking off all the best tourist attractions in the city. Today, we’ll show you four of our favourite cycling routes as you discover Barcelona by bike!

Barcelona en bici

1. A spectacular modernist bike route!

If you’re in Barcelona, you simply have to make time to experience one of its most charming features, the modernist architecture by Antoni Gaudí. We recommend you follow an itinerary covering all his most famous buildings to get a good idea of what it involves and how modernism has influenced life in Barcelona.

There are a few places no trip would be complete without seeing, so make a note and don’t forget to include the following: the Sagrada FamiliaCasa BatllóLa Pedrera or Casa MiláCasa PlanellsCasa Vicens, Park Güell and all the impressive buildings on Paseo de Gracia, where you’ll be able to spot Casa Lleó i Morera and Casa Amatller. Make sure you don’t miss out!

2. A cycling route along Barcelona promenade

The whole of the waterfront and Barcelona promenade is designed so that people can easily get around by bike. There’s a dedicated cycle path along the entire route, where you can travel at your own pace as you enjoy the cooling sea breeze on your skin. An unbeatable feeling!

We recommend you take your time as you soak up the unique atmosphere. From Las Ramblas, head along Passeig Colón until you reach Port Vell and go down Passeig Juan de Borbón all the way to Barceloneta Beach.

3. A route through El Born up to Parc de la Ciutadella

Green spaces, historical landmarks and iconic buildings line this easy and fun route. Start your journey in the Born district, one of the most emblematic neighbourhoods in Barcelona. Known for its avant-garde shops and fashion boutiques, cafés and authentic tapas bars, Born is a great place to recharge your batteries between cycling adventures.

Head towards the Santa María del Mar Basilica, built by the residents of the Ribera neighbourhood and workers from the docks who, stone by stone, built Barcelona’s now infamous “Other Cathedral”. To complete your ride, enter Parc de la Ciutadella where the abundant nature and fresh air will help you switch off from all the hustle and bustle of city life.

4. From Plaça Espanya to Poblenou by Bike in Barcelona

Start your journey at Plaça Espanya, the largest square in Barcelona, built for the 1929 International Exhibition. Continue along Paral·lel until you reach Poble Sec, where you’ll find one of the most famous streets known for its delicious tapas, Carrer Blai.

Next, head to the Columbus Monument, continue towards the Universal Forum of Cultures area, and finish by enjoying the street art in one of the trendiest neighborhoods, Poblenou.
